Laminating wood wing spars.

Question:

You know, now that you mention it!  I have laminated up several over the years for wooden airplanes, but I don’t remember a book that told how.  Maybe it is in one of the Bingelis books.  Does anybody know? HF

HF, I recall that one of the EAA books on building aircraft in wood had an article on a Jodel spar. It was an old publication and may not still be in print. EBS

Personally I’ve had great luck by calling EAA and asking them if articles on *fill in the blank here with your question* existed.  They would do a search and send me a listing of every article on the subject they had on record. REAL hard to go wrong with that approach, so if you absolutely, positively have to know …. Corky Scott

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Does anyone know where I can find detailed info on laminating wood wing spars? AC4313 doesnt go into much detail and all my other books dont offer much either. I guess they were written back in the days when AC spruce was plentiful and good stuff was not difficult to come by without waiting a year to get it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Lots of good info in ANC-18 "Design of Wood Aircraft Structures" And also, ANC-19 "Wood Aircraft Inspection and Fabrication" ANC-18 was published in 1944 and again in 1951. ANC-19 was published in 1951. These were put out by the Forest Products Laboratory and were available through the government printing office. Most likely can be found at a good engineering library. I copied mine from the University of Minnesota. Good luck,  Greg Cardinal

that is one of the only construction books dedicated to woodwork. Aircraft Spruce sells the book P/N 13-40635 for $11.95. This is an excellent resource on "How To" build or repair wood aircraft. Jerry Aguilar Aircraft Spruce

There’s a Tony Bingelis article in the EAA Wood Building Techniques book called "Laminating and Bending Wood" which might help you on your way. There are also about 50 other helpful articles in there as well (a couple of them about laminating spars).  The book is available through EAA (obviously). Matt —- Remove all XX to email. There was an excellent article by Robert "Bob" Gilbert in Sport Aviation 15 or so years ago. I know of no other authorative source from EAA. There may be something in Boatbuilding Publications. (Spars and Masts fabricating etc). Warren – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Does anyone know where I can find detailed info on laminating wood wing spars?
